We’re talking about gun control again and this time we’re going to have a national march by kids, backed by the intelligentsia and glitterati of Hollywood in full battle gear, armed to the teeth with hashtags and tweets – instead of the guns they use to make virtually all their movies.
Fearful of the looming battle, the politicians are scrambling for the tall grass where they can hide from the nagging, bedeviling issues of the day, most of which they themselves have created over the last fifty years and for which they have no answers, and even less will. This while the radicalized national media beats the story of another school shooting like a rug, with emotionalized claptrap presented as actual news or, laughably, as serious thought.
Sadly, it’s all a diversion from the real issue of this century and much of the last one: The United States and West are in a full-scale spiritual collapse set in motion by the piecemeal abandonment of our Judeo-Christian ethos and birthright.
Without a firm moral code, there is no standard by which to judge right and wrong, good and bad. So bad wins a lot.
Without a binding heritage, any will do.
Without either, education has collapsed, and with it our duty to instruct our children.
Now we don’t even protect them.
A vile, evil creature who was well known to both local police and the FBI was allowed to do what he publicly promised to do – perpetrate a mass school shooting – this time in Parkland, Florida.
And no one did a thing to stop him.
But, before the last of seventeen murdered youngsters was even removed from the school, the media – the cheerleaders for the ultra-radicals that now call themselves progressives – shifted the attention from the human tragedy of the murders to the political honey-pot for the members of the entertainment-media-academic -political complex; gun control and more specifically banning so-called “assault weapons.”
This in spite of the obvious fact that the teenagers were murdered in a facility that – unlike our banks, jewelry stores, courthouses, government buildings and many private firms – had zero defenses. None. No one was armed and there were not even real-time security cameras in use. The deputy sheriff that did show up cowered behind a column outside the school as a deranged young man shot kids within his earshot.
There was nothing and no one to protect the children that we say we love so much in our national discussion. The facts are obvious; we actually love banks and courthouses more, because unlike our schools we defend them. We have good people with guns to stop bad people with guns and dark hearts.
The same holds true for our babies. Like our school children, we talk about how much we love them. Yet, the truth is that we refuse to defend them. We refuse to honor and protect God-given life.
In the last twenty years there have been approximately 275 children murdered in school shootings – an incalculable evil.
However, somewhere north of 4 million children have been destroyed – killed – in the same twenty years by Planned Parenthood alone. Using billions of our tax dollars to boot. That too is an inexpressible evil.
(Of course, rarely mentioned are the millions of mass murders committed at the hand of authoritarian governments.)
It is a bone-chilling indictment or our collective moral compass. It’s a marker for the future, where evil in the guise of economics and convenience becomes the god of the age.
Interestingly, there are around 25,000 gun laws on the books across the U.S. that seek to control an inanimate object. About all they do in reality is prove that good citizens don’t need the law and bad people ignore them.
Likewise, there are about 655 Planned Parenthood offices around the country largely unencumbered by any laws. The result is that nearly 20% of all pregnancies in the U.S. end in the death of the baby, and in some cities more minorities are killed in the womb than are born from it. No laws will constrain that carnage either.
None of this would surprise our Founders. They, almost to a man, understood that there is a higher Law, written on the hearts of men that they respond to or they don’t. If some cannot live under God’s law, how could they live under man’s law?
They created a Republic for virtuous people, and only a virtuous people can keep it.
The West and the United States are now so morally lost that they are unable of identifying the evil by name that they have set loose in the land, or the evil they continue to invite into their midst.
The problem with accommodating evil of course, is that one bite is never enough. Already in the Western Europe freedom of speech, freedom of opinion and association are under full-scale assault. Here in the U.S. the calls for censorship, diminishing the Bill of Rights, especially the First and Second Amendments, are in full throat. Remarkably – or perhaps not – there are very few, even on the conservative side of the aisle, that seem alarmed or prepared to lead the fight for human liberty.
Even many of our churches seem unwilling to raise their voices, though they will be the first institutions silenced, as they already are in so much of the world.
We’re on our own evidently.
Nearly 3,500 years ago in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy, Moses gave his people a message from God, in a theme that is used throughout the Scriptures, and by Christ in the New Testament. It best sums up our human dilemma, and was doubtless on the minds of our Founders in the hot summer of 1776.
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed.”
