I am sick and tired of the John McCain and Rand Paul wings of the Republican Party. So long as these tiny, idealistic, egotistic, self-righteous wings of the GOP exist, the GOP will remain impotent and irrelevant.
As I watch my ideologically pure libertarian friends swoon over Rand Paul’s refusal to work toward passable legislation to reform health care policy, taxes, and regulation in the United States, all I can think is that they care more about their intellectually honest and coherent arguments than they do about the real men and women, not to mention children, suffering under one of the least efficient health care programs in the entire world. The democratic-socialists in Europe do this better.
I get that the Democrats wrote the ACA to fail. Failing was the entire point – as a crisis-creating maneuver to ensure single-payer insurance and complete government control over one fifth of the US economy.
Now we’ve got John McCain opposing the most moderate Health Care legislation proposed by either the Democrat or Republican Party on the basis of what? I would hate to guess…
As someone fighting cancer and living with a pre-existing condition, I will tell you, I understand better than anyone just how important it is that the federal government doesn’t get to set the standards or the money upon which my life depends. There are 310 million Americans living in the United States of America, legally or otherwise. I represent but one of them. My voice in the national healthcare debate doesn’t equal an ant’s audacity. 8.4 Million people live in Virginia. At least, here, I have an ant’s chance in hell of getting some representation from my representatives. I can influence my friends and neighbors. I can raise awareness. I can do nothing meaningful at the federal level and neither can you.
I’m so disgusted by Republicans who view healthcare policy as a political issue – looking toward wins or losses. There are lives at stake. Even more so – consider all the opportunity costs! Are we going to defund schools to pay for the healthcare costs of Baby-Boomers? Are we going to defund local governments, local police and fire, just to extend the lives of those who manufactured the Deep State?
Regulations increase costs. They must be reduced.
Taxes punish the very people who provide the most efficient means of health care. They must be reduced.
We cannot afford to live in a society that handcuffs the most compassionate and helpful health care providers – turning over all our wealth and power to companies, hospitals, and pharmaceutical corporations whose only claim to prosperity is the attainment of political power and monopoly!
I say shame on Senator John McCain. I say shame on Senator Rand Paul. These are men who put themselves before over 300 million Americans who have been forced, by the rule of law, to depend on the government’s aptitude and efficiency at regulating the very care upon which the lives of the American people depend!
The Republican Party needs to embrace the best wisdom of Socialized Medicine available in Europe or to embrace the proven record of the free market supported by years of capitalistic success. If we cannot decide, then we need to compromise.
Isn’t that what Senator Graham is trying to do here? Opposing this is like cutting off our nose, our legs, our ears, and our genitals to spite our face. I almost wanted to write, “We can’t be that stupid”, but that would fly in the face of nearly every experience we’ve had as Republicans over the last century. I dislike Senator Graham, but this is a compromise that will save lives.
Why aren’t Trump’s sycophants demanding universal and unquestioned support of a bill their Lord and Savior has endorsed?
Those Republicans who believe that we should just let the Democrat’s ACA bill implode and destroy itself are the kind of people who will celebrate the death toll in this country for political gain, like the left does in war. Those are Republicans who should have no voice and no foothold in the Republican Party. They are the very worst amongst us. While they may be loved by Conservative Talk Radio, I’m quite sure that they will some day burn in hell for their cruel souls and heartless demeanor.
To My Rand Paul Friends:
I get it. The government has no business regulating, taxing, and selling access to the very processes upon which our life and death depend. That’s true, but that’s not the world we’re living in. I need you to live in the now. I need you to open your eyes, take a long look at what is actually happening, and develop informed opinions regarding alternatives.
To My John McCain Friends:
You just need to pull head from ass. Does our current system poll well? Of course it does. Is anyone actually happy with it? Of course they aren’t. Hiding behind polling and immediate political expediency is pure cowardice and you ought to be at least a little bit ashamed of yourselves.
Lessons Learned:
I no longer trust the Rand Paul and John McCain wings of the Republican Party. You’re dead to me. Each of you stand on principles, from time to time, which I adore and support myself – but you are willing to sacrifice thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars in order to assuage your own self-importance and claims to “being right”. Screw you for that. Shame on you all for that.
When Americans weep over the loss of their loved-ones, I want you to look in the mirror and recognize that human beings, loved and cherished by their families, would have been alive tomorrow, were it not for your arrogant obsession with “being right.”
Shame. A damn shame.
