Attorney General Mark Herring-- Joe Mahoney/Times Dispatch

Herring joins other AGs trying to block Trump’s revised travel ban

written by Jeanine Martin March 14, 2017

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has joined the Attorneys General from 13 states to file a brief in support of Hawaii’s move to block Trump’s latest travel ban. From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

The brief, filed in the District Court for Hawaii, backs Hawaii’s bid for a temporary restraining order to block implementation of the revised order, which takes effect on Thursday unless a court intervenes.

The revised travel ban blocks people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen for 120 days. (Only a leftist democrat like Herring could object to such a ban).

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

The attorney generals’ brief argues that the revised order will harm state colleges and universities and their faculty and students, disrupt staffing and research at state medical institutions and harm states’ economies.

It also argues that the revised order will decrease the states’ ability to enforce state anti-discrimination laws.

“Most fundamentally, the revised order prevents states from honoring the commitments to openness, tolerance and diversity that lie at the heart of our state constitutions and laws.”

It seeks a nationwide temporary restraining order to prevent what it terms “irreparable harms.”

Where in our state constitution are diversity, openness, and tolerance?  Does the constitution say those things are more important than our safety?  Does the constitution mention the diversity of ideas and tolerance for those who disagree with you?

Herring’s statement:

“We’re going to continue to fight this ban alongside our fellow states because, even after all the concessions President Trump made from the first ban to the second, it still remains a harmful, deeply un-American, and unconstitutional attempt to enact the Muslim ban he promised as a candidate.”

Of course the temporary ban has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with terrorists.

More here.
