Things just curiouser and curiouser. Or perhaps there are only 2 degrees of separation between everyone in Virginia.
Although we have over 400 Electoral Judges in Virginia, Brian Schoeneman is clearly the man in the spotlight of the state election results because of his decisions as head of the Fairfax Electoral Board. Brian even made national television, The Rachel Maddow show! How did Brian become one of the three election judges in Fairfax? Because the Governor is a republican, 2 of the 3 judges in Fairfax must also be republican. (Our elections are in big trouble beginning next year.) The first choice of Fairfax republicans was Hans von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation, a very highly respected man, but county democrats strenuously objected to him and sent a letter to a panel of judges asking that his appointment to the board not be renewed.
Criticizing von Spakovsky’s work on the panel, county Democratic Party ChairmanCesar del Aguila called him “temperamentally unsuited” to the job. Among the Democrats’ complaints was von Spakovsky’s opposition to distributing multilingual voting materials.
An election watchdog group, Viriginia Voter’s Alliance, objected to this kind of control from the local democratic party. Reagan George is the head of that Alliance.
“The way this has happened, and the complicity of Chief Judge Dennis Smith, should require concerned citizens and legislators to determine if there was collusion between the panel of judges and the Fairfax County Democratic Committee,” George told Watchdog.
Brian Schoeneman was the second choice of the Republican party in Fairfax, appointed to fill Von Spakovsky’s position on the board when the judges’ panel agreed to boot Hans von Spakovsky.
How does this involve John Farrell? Mr. George went on to say:
“Mr. del Aguila and his attorney, John Farrell, must think that adhering to these laws are detrimental to their long-term goals in Fairfax County. One can only wonder what those long-term goals are and how following duly-enacted election laws are perceived as a threat by local Democrats. Hans obviously got in their way.”
This may help explain why Brian Schoeneman wants us to ignore the behavior of John Farrell and ‘move on’. Without the help of John Farrell, Brian may never have been on the Electoral Board of Fairfax County.
Full details of the story here.
Next year one of the two republicans on the Fairfax Electoral board will have to leave the board. I think we all now know that Steve Hunt, a true conservative, will get the boot and Brian Schoeneman will be the lone ‘republican’ on the electoral board. Brian has positioned himself perfectly to get the support of the powerful Fairfax County Democrats. Well played Sir!
