How much snow are we going to get? UPDATE (6/13) with latest prediction map

written by Jeanine Martin March 11, 2017

UPDATE: The latest snowfall prediction map from Capital Weather gang as of 6/13, 5:00am

The latest map from the Capital Weather Gang for potential snow from winter storm Stella on Monday into Tuesday:

As you can see, most of Virginia will get very little or no snow except for the far northern part of the state (where I live) and the valley which always seems to get the most snow. (Lynn Mitchell have your camera ready, we look forward to your beautiful photographs in the valley.)

Of course, much can change over the next 48 hours and this storm could give us more snow or far less snow. The latest predictions by the Capital Weather gang:

Immediate metro area, inside the Beltway

  • One inch or more: 70 percent chance
  • Four inches or more: 50 percent chance
  • Eight inches or more: 40 percent chance

North and west of the Beltway

  • One inch or more: 85 percent chance
  • Four inches or more: 70 percent chance
  • Eight inches or more: 55 percent chance

The snow will begin on Monday afternoon and continue into the middle of the day on Tuesday.

From Accuweather.com:

“A widespread snowfall of 6 inches is likely with localized amounts over 12 inches in the Northeast,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.

At this time, it appears that areas from northwestern Virginia to northern Maryland, central and eastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, central and southeastern New York state and a large part of New England stand an excellent chance of receiving 6 inches or more of snow from the storm.

Their map:

One more map from Weather.com:

This being Virginia, we could get no snow from Stella but with a name like that, it portends a wicked storm.  We’ll keep you updated.
