Joe Morrissey announced today that he is vacating his seat as Delegate from the 74th district to run for Senate in the 16th district. [read_more]Morrissey won election to his house seat in January in a special election where he ran as an Independent. He ran while being incarcerated. He has held the delegate seat since 2007. Another special election will be called in the district. Morrissey said he will continue to represent the people of the 74th house district from his law office. He told CBS6,
“It’s the constituent service that I’ve delivered that I am so proud of,”
When pressed about the child recently born to his teenage girlfriend he responded,
“I am mindful that as a public official that your personal life has to be front and center,” he said. “I will address it in due course, when [the] mom is ready. It will be done in due course, like in a month.”
Morrissey has three other children born to three different women. He has never been married to any of his ‘baby mamas”.
Morrissey faces more criminal charges in court next month. He is charged with felonies for perjury and forgery.
