In a mass meeting tonight John Whitbeck won the nomination to represent Republicans if there is a special election to fill Mark Herring’s seat in Virginia’s 33rd Senate district. Whitbeck won by margin greater than two to one with 358 votes for John Whitbeck and 152 for his opponent Ron Meyer. Meyer was very gracious in defeat, making a motion that Whitbeck be nominated by acclaimation. He later said publicly and privately that he would do all that he could to help elect John Whitbeck. For such a young man Meyer showed a great deal of maturity in reaching out to support the Republican nominee.
No date has yet been set for the special election, should the recount declare Mark Herring the winner for Attorney General.
