Loudoun Democrats Refuse to Close Schools for Trump’s Inauguration

written by Jeanine Martin January 16, 2017

While other schools systems in the DC area, including Fairfax County schools, are closed on Friday for the Presidential Inauguration, Loudoun county schools are open.  While students in Fairfax and other districts will be able to attend the Inauguration, Loudoun students will not have a holiday.

According to one Loudoun School board member the school system forgot to include Inauguration Day as a holiday on their school calendar. Seeing that oversight, in December School Board member Jill Turgeon (R-Blue Ridge district), made a motion to make Inauguration Day a school holiday so students could attend the Inauguration or at least watch it on television. Only one school board member, Eric DeKenipp (R-Catoctin), supported the motion.  Apparently Democrats on the Loudoun School Board  did not want Loudoun county students to have any part in the Inauguration of President Trump.

Now Loudoun parents are confused about what their students can and cannot do on Friday.  Will students be excused from school if they attend the Inauguration and/or the parade?  Are children excused if they stay home to watch the Inauguration on television?

Perhaps someone from LCPS will tell us what will be an excused absence on Friday. Perhaps there are no excused absences for the Inauguration. Parents and students don’t know. Many are uncertain whether or not Loudoun schools will be in session. Perhaps a Robo call to inform parents would be a good idea.
