Corey Lewandowski was beloved by many of Trumps most ardent supporters. Paul Manafort, however, was more a process driven campaign manager for Trump, pulling levers in the background and making the deals. In this respect, I believe that Donald Trump really did find a good fit with Manafort.
CNN – Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort has resigned from his position on the campaign, the Republican presidential nominee said in a statement Friday. “This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign,” Trump said. “I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success.” A Trump source said Manafort told Trump he was becoming a distraction and he wanted to end that.
Stephen K. Bannon will take over the reigns. Mr. Bannon’s experience in media, as chairman of Breitbart News, is thought to help Trump reclaim the narrative from the Clinton Campaign and their surrogates in the mainstream media. This is likely not causing many smiles at the RNC, who were no doubt hoping to see Trump select someone with campaign experience. Once again, this is Trump being Trump and all we can do is sit back and watch.
