Governor McAuliffe has given grants of $95,000 to seven small towns to help fix up their downtowns. The money is going to Culpeper, Marion, South Boston, Wytheville, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, and Staunton. From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
The money will be used from projects ranging from a mural project to a hotel redesign.
The Downtown Investment Grants, which administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, are meant to help revitalize historic downtown districts.
I can’t believe $95,000 will be a huge help in revitalizing historic districts in these towns, but it’s better than nothing. I’m sure these small towns will be appreciative. Some of these downtowns look pretty good without being ‘spruced up’.
