I understand that former Delegate Dave LaRock is considering a run for Governor even though Governor Glenn Youngkin has already enthusiastically endorsed Lt-Governor Winsome Earle-Sears to replace him once his term expires. I have met Mr. LaRock on several occasions and have no doubt that he is a good man but as a fellow Republican quite frankly I question his motives for entering the race at this late stage.
As we know, right now the Governor’s veto is the only thing that precludes far left and draconian legislation that has been passed by the Virginia Legislature from becoming law. Without a Republican as our Chief Executive exercising that veto power, we risk losing the last option we have as Republicans to keep the Commonwealth on an even keel. As an optimist, I would hope that someday as Republicans we would take both houses, but as a realist I just do not see that happening in the foreseeable future.
Aside from being our Lt-Governor with a breadth of experience, Winsome Earle-Sears is the American success story and has the potential to serve at the national level in future Republican Administrations. Who else has the moxie to use her shoe to open the legislature when some unsuspecting Democrat played a prank on her and hid the gavel. Quite frankly, I do not see that in Mr. LaRock – yes, a nice guy and public servant but perhaps lacking the notoriety that Winsome Earle-Sears would bring to the table as the first African American Governor of a state that was the former capital of the Confederacy.
Per Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” this will surely be broken if Mr. LaRock even enters the primary and splinters the Republican Party. His entry at the eleventh hour would be tantamount to giving the keys of the Executive Mansion directly to Spanberger, who currently enjoys a slim lead in the latest polls. Mr. LaRock it is simply not your time to enter the fray, for the greater good, please step aside.

Why would a loyal Republican want to splinter his own party?
That’s what we have all been pondering.

“The freshman class of House Democrats in 2018 was swept into Washington on a wave of anti-Trump energy, brought to power to check the whims of the White House.
Now, three of those members — and possibly more to come — have launched gubernatorial bids, arguing that the forefront of the fight against President Donald Trump this time around will be waged in the states.
These Democratic women running for governor include Rep. Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey, former Rep. Abigail Spanberger in Virginia and former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in New Mexico. All three of them are making the case that as governor, they would be best positioned to punch back against Trump, who they say is hurting Americans with decisions like downsizing government, embarking on another trade war and failing to enact his promises to lower costs.
“The reality is that state government is going to be really the tip of the spear in trying to protect people; to have some continuity on health care and consumer protection in a world where Trump is dismantling them,” said former Democratic Rep. Katie Porter, another member of the class of 2018 who is mulling a bid for California governor, barring a run from former Vice President Kamala Harris. “This is one of the reasons that you’re seeing some of these amazing people with such bright trajectories, like Deb and Abigail and Mikie, look to gubernatorial races.”
Now in the minority in Washington, Democrats are retooling their messaging after Republicans made gains up and down the ballot this past fall. Democrats have already turned to the states in their attempts to push back against Trump’s agenda, with attorneys general from across the country filing legal challenges against his executive orders.”
Kinda a retarded take. A primary would make Sears campaign like a conservative rather than a Youngkin-ite.
Funny, I thought Latrice endorsed Sears
