Northern Virginia and Richmond will be allowed to Phase 2 of reopening as of this Friday, June 12th. That means, among other things, restricted indoor dining in restaurants at 50% capacity and groups of up to 50 people will be allowed to congregate. Details on Phase 2 here.
Governor Northam also announced his approach to reopening k12 schools. Like all things he does, the reopening of schools will be a phased approach and convoluted. Phase 1 can begin immediately. All phases will follow the CDC guidelines for reopening schools. Details of the three phases of the reopening of K12 schools here.
In all three phases of reopening the schools will observe the following:
- Daily health screenings of students and staff
- Providing remote learning exceptions and teleworking for students and staff who are at a higher risk of severe illness
- The use of cloth face coverings by staff when at least six feet physical distancing cannot be maintained
- Encouraging the use of face coverings in students, as developmentally appropriate, in settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
No school system will be permitted to move to a higher phase without permission from the state.
On Thursday the Governor will announce his plan for reopening colleges and universities.
