by Chris Green, Former 6th District Central Region Chair
I have heard some folks say that 6th District Chairman Scott Sayre, and by extension ‘his’ committee, ‘rigged’ the upcoming May 19th Convention to favor one candidate. It’s fair to say that I am surprised no one is talking about (pun intended), the GOP Elephant that will be in the Convention (room) Hall. That Elephant is the Incumbent Protection Act brought to us by none other than the Democratic Byrd Machine which ruled Virginia for a good part of the last Century. They were true experts at “rigging” a primary or election!
Those rascals passed a law specifically allowing any elected official the ability to choose his or her preferred method of nomination (convention, or primary) to enhance their reelection. I can guarantee you the reason for all the animosity and upheaval that has been circulating among Our Party has one source. Chairman Sayre presided over the 6th District Committee when the Committee voted to join the Lawsuit to overturn this egregious law!
You see this was deemed necessary by the 6th District Committee itself as the plaintiff’s first attempt to overturn the law in court was thrown out on the grounds that the plaintiffs had “No Standing.” Well, the very first sentence of the 6th District Bylaws states that the purpose of the Committee is to choose the nominating method for putting forth a candidate for a GOP Congressman in our district.
Chairman Sayre also campaigned in his first election to hold our elected Officials Accountable and advocated that all data collected during canvassing be held within the committees’ databases not the candidates, or elected Officials. I can also guarantee you that the same folks who are screaming the loudest opposed him “tooth and nail” to accomplish that in our District. They don’t come out and say it, but their sole goal is to keep that power with the Elected Officials, rather than the local units which are dominated by principled Grassroots activists.
Our Democrat opponents don’t have that problem because they are Socialists by nature, and use a Unified Data Base to get out their vote.
Grassroots Republicans have been told by their candidates that they were going to Repeal Obamacare, Build a wall to end illegal immigration, and get a Balanced Budget from Congress. Why does this never happen? Simple, the Lobbyists, and the ‘Big Money’ behind them Control Congress with their deep pockets.
They tell us we need to elect them because they are so influential that they can get this done. Then they come home with the excuse that they, alas, are only one in 535 Congressmen.
This scene is repeated over, and over again in GOP districts nationwide. The news outlets are funded by the deep moneyed interests. Their job is to make excuses and placate the electorate with other theories as to why the “Will of the Majority” is neglected.
Great anxiety has been put forth because the 6th District Committee proposed rules for the convention that the candidate with the most amount of votes on the first ballot would win the nomination. This has sent some folks into a “tizzy”. May I venture to say that those very folks would also be in favor of the Committee holding a primary instead of a Convention as they always did in the past? May I further venture that primaries favor the candidates who can raise the most what? Money!
I think that the 6th District Committee and Chairman Sayre have been acting in your best interest all along. They deserve your support.
I would advise you to vote for the Rules that will be proposed by the Official Convention Rules Committee.
Finally, I would like to say that it was a privilege to serve your committees in the Central Region District, and I hope that my performance in that capacity benefited your committees. I will not be a delegate to this convention, although I do wish all of you God Speed, and I hope we will have a convention that benefits Our Party, and Our Republic.
