Two democrats are interested in running against Congresswoman Barbara Comstock next year. Comstock is in her second term in Congress. According to bluevirginia.com state senator Jennifer Wexton, who represents parts of Fairfax and Loudoun, is being recruited to run against Comstock in 2018. Wexton is being encouraged to run by DCCC and others. Wexton is well known in Loudoun as a former assistant Commonwealth Attorney. She has also been an attorney in Loudoun in private practice. Another possible challenger is Fairfax Supervisor from the Sully district, Kathy Smith, the only elected democrat in the 10th district to have never lost an election. Smith never met a tax she didn’t embrace. In the last year, she supported the meals tax which failed at the polls and she supported a 6 cent raise in the property tax rate which is quite a large increase in taxes. Smith is the liberal’s liberal. Much more on Smith here.
Unless Trump’s approval ratings start going up, next year could be rough for all Republican incumbents, including Congresswoman Barbara Comstock.
