Question: Who should get time in prison – or at least pay a fine?
- A mentally disturbed Trump supporter wearing paint on his face and a buffalo horned hat, who walks into a government building, doesn’t break anything, or hurt anyone, but walks in, with police help, into a government body chamber and sits in the chair of the Senate president.
- A mentally disturbed socialist, unprovoked, smashes your Trump-supporting neighbor’s windshield, breaks his tail lite, spray paints graffiti on the car, and threatening messages on his apartment door, causing about $2,500 in damages and emotional distress for the victim.
I think any reasonable person would say the 2nd person should be charged and perhaps at least pay a fine or restitution to the victim.
Well, in our system of “justice,” where media and public pressure are now the prosecutors and judges, it’s the first person who gets thrown in the slammer, not the 2nd guy.
In this case, the first person is Jacob Anthony Chansley, known as Jake Angeli, or the “Q Shaman,” who was sentenced last week to 41 months in prison on a single charge of interfering with a government proceeding because he attended the Stop the Steal rally in DC on Jan. 6 and was one of a few thousand protesters who entered the U.S> Capitol while Congress was doing the ceremonial confirmation of the 2020 electoral vote.
In the 2nd case, it was my upstairs neighbor who vandalized my car, sprayed “Trump Cunt” and “Trump fascist” on my apartment door, and was never charged for the crime, despite the fact the law allowed me to press charges with Norfolk police. For purposes of this article, we’ll call him “Shawn.”
It bugged me that Chansley, who clearly has mental issues, got the book thrown at him for doing so little and he even turned himself in, denied bail, and pleaded to one charge . He has been in prison since the riot at the Capitol and is a devotee of Q-anon.
Please don’t misread me. I have always thought Q-anon and its members are whacked. I do my best to question my fellow conservatives about their conspiracy theories, especially about the COVID tests and vaccines.
The Jan. 6 Capitol assault was awful and was clearly egged on by former President Trump, his followers (who helped him raise millions in donations with the Stop The Steal campaign), and I believe some of them should face some criminal charges. But I also think the organizers of the 2020 riots and those who aided and abetted the looting, burning and destruction should be charged with something, too
The optics of seeing people with Trump flags and MAGA hats storming into the Capitol , trying to interfere with Congress’ ceremonial confirmation of the 2020 electoral vote, and threatening police and members, has put a stain on Trump that will last forever – and which has sadly, put his supporters in the category of insurrectionists and white supremacists in the court of public opinion.
According to DoJ, 650 rioters have been arrested and charged for various charges, but only 190 have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, including over 60 individuals who have been charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer. At least 78 of these protesters have been denied bail and are in jail awaiting charges. None have been charged with anything related to sedition, insurrection or trying to overthrow the government, which is how the liberal media and Democrats are portraying this. https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/nine-months-jan-6-attack-capitol
Meanwhile, the woke socialist who lives above me is facing NO charges for smashing my windshield, taillight, scrawling hateful graffiti on my car windows, doors and apartment door who without any provocation on April 27, vandalized my car, smashing my taillight and windshield, and scrawling anti Trump graffiti on my door- let alone stomping up and down above me at 6 am, terrorizing the building.

I never discussed politics with him or any of my largely liberal neighbors. However, I made the grave mistake of having an obscure Trump sticker on my car during the 2020 campaign (It said “Keep on Trumpin”). We’ll call him “Shawn.” He is 45, lives alone and gets the Democratic Socialists of America newsletter.
It took one hour after my 911 call before police arrived that morning of April 27. The officer talked to him, bodycam rolling, and took him to Norfolk Geneal Hospital for evaluation. He was not charged, nor mentioned in the police report.
We never talked politics or anything for that matter, but he is mentally ill. I actually observed him drinking in the courtyard the night before and was told he may have gone off his meds.
But later that evening, I heard footsteps above me – he was released! Two neighbors went to see how he was doing – not me.
It took several calls to the right Norfolk detectives to find out why, plus help from a couple in the complex. And, here I was with a smashed windshield, busted taillight and another woke young neighbor went up to check on how he was doing, not me.
Making matters worse, my auto insurance payment was late and I could not file a claim So, I had to take time from work to get the windshield fixed and paint removed from the windows so I could drive my car safely.
I learned from the police that vandalism is one of a handful of criminal acts in Virginia whereby the police cannot charge anyone unless they see it happening with their own eyes. This occurred at 530 or 6 in the morning. There is no security camera in our parking lot, nor in the vicinity.
Only if damages exceed $1,000 can the victim take the estimate to the police and they will charge him.
With the help of a couple living in our complex – I worked with the woman at one time — Shawn paid me $1,000 toward the damage and apologized, but despite promising to pay the rest, did not. He refused to answer his door to accept the damage report and receipts, leading me to have one of these neighbors to intervene. As it turned out, this couple had mental issues and they turned against me for this request.
In my view, the check he paid me was evidence he committed this crime, and the estimate showed $2500 in damages. Police also had a Post-it note in their possession Shawn put on my door which would have DNA evidence.
Due to parts shortages, it took up to three months to get my car fixed and get the insurance check.
Due to threats from the couple who helped me, including smearing feces on my door (they also have mental issues), I put security cameras outside my window, which made a number of my neighbors upset.
But the police were useless, and so I felt I needed to protect myself.
The detective with Norfolk police, Lt. Peter Kolb, went to Shawn’s apartment several times to talk to him and get “a DNA sample, which would match what is on the Post-it note.” But Shawn hid behind the door and Kolb never got a warrant for his arrest. Shawn is not only nuts, but dishonest.
Some of Kolb’s excuse for not charging him based on my evidence:
- Shawn had no record of prior offenses. Wel, Q-shaman Chansely had no prior arrests either
- Shawn’s mental state. Kolb wrote me in an email “it genuinely seems clear that [he] is not mentally well…The reason his mental illness makes me want to be careful is that it could be a very easy hole for a defense attorney to use to say that he wasn’t doing the act in the first place. They could say “My client is mentally challenged and was only trying to help his neighbor by cleaning off graffiti that he noticed. The reason he paid him money is because he was scared and thought if he paid money his neighbor would stop harassing him.”
He added: “The standard is beyond a reasonable doubt. We’re currently basing our case on assuming that its only reasonable for a guilty person to clean up the graffiti and pay you $1000, but if the defense attorney can argue that Shawn, due to his mental status is NOT a reasonable person, then our case is much weaker. So that’s why I want to get something more.”
- No video evidence or eyewitnesses who saw him do it.
Had Shawn scrawled anything related to me being Jewish on my door or car, I am sure police could have charged him with a hate crime, but it was evident to me that despite several attempts to obtain his DNA or talk to him, Norfolk police had no intention of pressing charges, despite my pleas.
To this day, Shawn keeps to himself and avoids me. Perhaps Kolb’s frequent efforts to contact him played a part in scaring him to keep straight.
However, what irks me is he is free and void of charges, but now Q-shaman (who I don’t know personally or care about) is going to prison for sitting in Mike Pence’s chair.
Several friends urged me to move. Problem is there is an apartment shortage in Norfolk. I decided to make Hashem (God) my guardian and not placate these liberals who want me out.
It was only in October the management company allowed me to leave without being obligated for the rest of the lease. I will likely move by January, probably back to Northern Virginia.
It is sad when the police and courts are pressured by the media mob and woke mob protesters to throw the book at people who caused no damage or harm at the Capitol. And, the thousands of “mostly peaceful protesters” who rioted in cities in 2020 get much less time in jail – if any at all.
I pray to God that our new Republican governor and attorney general and House of Delegates will do something about putting crime victims first and ensuring Virginians are not persecuted for their political or religious views.
