While I am personally opposed as a Christian to the doctrine of Calvinism, I will say that John Calvin said it best and made no bones about it when he said “When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers”. This statement couldn’t be closer to the truth today looking at the ungodly leadership here in America and throughout the world.
It is one thing to be punished by poor leadership and dictatorship but looking back into history and the Holy Scriptures it could also be that we are getting just what we asked for! How so?
Let’s look at the Book of 1st Samuel for example. The people of Israel had everything they could possibly ask for in the Lord our God, they lacked nothing, they had guidance and He provided faithfully for them, neither abandoning nor forsaking them.
And if the Lord leading them out of the bonds of slavery from Egypt into the Promised Land of milk and honey wasn’t enough alone to make their hearts blessed, they basically tell God to take a hike and ask the prophet Samuel to make them a king so they may be judged like the other nations.
They wished to be like all other nations when they were already the apple of God’s eye, His chosen people. Samuel should have said to them “If the other nations were to jump into the pits of hell intentionally, would y’all”? They probably would have said yes sadly, especially if this scenario occurred here today in the 21st Century.
However God gave a message to Samuel to warn them of the consequences of such a request and yet told him to listen to them for they have rejected Him, basically telling Him to take a hike and wanting to not be ruled nor judged by Him.
And nonetheless the Israelites got the request granted and Saul the son of Kish became their King and yes you know how he ended up. Disobedient to God, grew jealous of the next Israeli King David, ruling tyrannically and went down tragically taking his own life in battle. And Israel has learned the hard way many times since then.
Fast forward to thousands of years later in the 20th Century, the year 1962 to be exact. The United States of America’s public schools were practicing prayer and reading the Bible openly and unashamed. Then came the cases of Engel v. Vitale when the Supreme Court of the United States ruled it unconstitutional for official prayer to be conducted in public schools. And Abington School District v. Schempp, where it was ruled that school sponsored Bible reading and reciting the Lord’s Prayer in public schools was ruled unconstitutional.
Very contradictory as our nation’s Constitution was written by its framers on the grounds and foundation of Judeo Christian values only for those who hate God to misuse this very law of the land to tell Him to get lost. So is this any different than when the Israelites asked to be judged and ruled over like the others around them?
Not at all, in fact America’s public schools had the very best teacher, the very best curriculum and the very best blueprint to properly equip and prepare our children’s minds for the immorality, wickedness and darkness that the prince of the power in the air throws at them like free candy!
But in the name of “equality” and “inclusiveness” they, like the Israelites, told God to hit the highway as well. And look at us now over 60 years later. Nothing has gotten better and literally and metaphorically, all hell has broken loose.
Ironically I believe that America is facing more judgment and then some too, for our leaders not standing with Israel. Despite their(Israel) past and present disobedience and history of redemption and turning their back on God and so on and so on. They are still His chosen people and He makes it crystal clear in the scriptures.
And I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. – Genesis 12:3
Going back to wanting to be like all other nations,
Looking back at history from the fall at Eden up to now, here are some non negotiable facts that one can accept or refuse with consequence.
1. Our souls are made for eternity and will go to one of two destinations, Heaven or Hell.
2. Those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior will go to be with Him in Heaven and those who reject Him will burn forever in Hell, fully separated from Him.
3. We will all be judged by God and bow before Him one day. 4. God has given us free will and does not dictate us to worship Him.
5. Christ has and always will remain on the throne.
Bottom line, no matter how many rules or laws you create, no matter how many lives are silenced and no matter what you may try to do, God is everywhere and He cannot and will not be banned nor get lost!
Adolf Hitler, the genocidal and anti semitic maniac he was, worked tooth and nail to exterminate the entire Jewish race and while he took millions of their precious lives, he didn’t succeed in bringing forth their premeditated extinction and it’ll never happen! Jesus(God in the flesh and a Jew) has got His hand of protection over His chosen people.
One cannot outlaw God nor foil His will. Be careful what you ask for! Surrender to Him!

Why does anyone continue to insist that, in the 21st Century, we should be subject to the myths, legends, and superstitions of a nomadic, Iron Age desert tribe?
Nope. I am not saying anything. I am showing people what God says in the Bible. Did you read the verses above? Go back and read the verses above.
Again, Christ said “If you love me you will obey my Commanments. John 14: 15.
Are you accusing Christ of legalism? The fact that people would want to debate if they can intentionally continue in sin shows they have not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. Again see Romans 6. Shall we continue in sin. that grace may abound? 2 God forbid.
However, we cannot be saved by works alone either.
I think that what you are implying is totally out of context with that one single verse. You may want to consider the entire Bible. Exodus 19:5. The covenant regarding Israel is conditional on obedience to God, and keeping the Covenant. Obedience to God requires keeping His Commandments. That includes all 10. Christ said, “If you love Me, you will obey My commandments” in the New Testament”, John 14:15-31. Again in Revelation 14:12, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Roman’s 6 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
No matter how the meaning of peculiar is twisted, God’s people are different. The difference is that they keep God’s Commandments. People who deny this are all the same. You will never listen to me, as it is not what everybody else is saying and doing. The Nation of Israel has broken the Covenant and is not obeying God. They have become just like everybody else. The New Testament Israel are both Jews and Gentiles who obey God, and accept Jesus Christ.
Are you saying that if you keep the commandments you will be saved? That’s legalism, Dominionism, and a false doctrine. If keeping the commandments saves you, why did Christ attack the legalism of the Jewish religious rulers? You can never keep the commandments perfectly to earn your way to heaven.
See my reply to you in the comments section. Best Wishes!
Genesis 12:3 is referring to Abram personally not the nation of Israel. Israel didn’t exist yet. Furthermore, modern day Israel is not God’s chosen people. Believers in Christ are the chosen.“ They [Israel] stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” I Peter 2:8-9 NKJV
God does not have two groups of people that belong to Him. Under the old covenant, God’s people were the Israelites. Under the new covenant, God’s people are all the believers in Jesus. The Bible is clear that there is neither Jew nor Gentile. One Shepherd over one flock. It’s spiritual abuse to tell Christians that our nation is under judgment because our nation isn’t supporting a Christ rejecting country who hosts one of the largest gay pride events in Tel Aviv.
Thank you. You may have explained it better than I did. Also, the verses that I referenced in my comments above about obedience to God and the keeping of His Commandments? God’s people also keep His Commandments. See above. Best Wishes!
Exactly. You will know them by their fruit!
On the money Vanessa.
First off, I’m a neutral in the Israeli/Hamas conflict.
Christian Zionists like John Hagee have supported Israel no matter what crimes they’ve committed. Notwithstanding, the killing of innocent Palestinians, many who WERE Christians, Israel’s war crimes have been perpetrated for years. And, of course, both sides are guilty.
How about another crime, closer to home. Consider researching the Zionist attack on the USS Liberty.
One more thing in my disjointed reply.
“The Chosen People.” Many evangelicals, primarily, Baptists read the Scofield Reference Bible. Scofield’s commentary has cemented the chosen people concept vis a vis some factions in Christianity.
If anyone is interested, I suggest y’all google the Scofield Bible, and the man who wrote the commentary. I’m not done researching it, however, it’s fascinating.
In any event,
