Congressman Denver Riggleman has lost his last appeal to the 5th District Republican Committee against what he calls a “corrupt” convention process. Conservative Bob Good is challenging Riggleman in a convention scheduled for June 13 at Tree of Life Ministries in Campbell County. It will be a drive-thru convention lasting all day.
In his latest appeal Riggleman asked the committee to change the location of the convention because the church is several miles from his opponent, Bob Good’s, home. His appeal was rejected by the 24-10.
Congressman Riggleman has tried repeatedly to change the process and the venue for the convention. He wanted a Firehouse Primary because it is thought to aide the incumbent and the candidate with the most money.
The Congressman also complained about Bob Good having some members of his staff on the 6th district committee. (Judging by the lopsided vote, that would not have mattered.)
From Roanoke.com,
“Conventions are synonymous with corruption,” Riggleman said during a telephone town hall on Tuesday. “A lot of it has to do with how you can manipulate the process for a candidate who is weaker than the one in office or somebody else running against them.”
Bob Good had a different view,
“He knows he’s going to lose,” Good said Wednesday in an interview. “He’s acting like a challenger and not an incumbent.”
