The Virginia Electoral Board has declared incumbent Republican David Yancey the winner in the 94th district after pulling his name from a bowl and ending the tie between Yancey and his Democrat opponent Shelly Simonds. This win means the Republicans are again in control of the House of Delegates as they have been since the late 1990’s. Their margin will be only two, 51-49, after losing 15 seats in the November ‘anti-Trump’ landslide election.
One issue remains, Yancey’s opponent Shelly Simonds can file immediately for a recount. That could mean the House of Delegates will convene on January 10th with no delegate seated from the 94th district. Republicans would still be in control 50-49.
