This is the first, and only, piece I ever intend to write concerning the American Nazis (I refuse to call them the ‘alt-right’. If you march down the street in a crowd that is carrying Nazi swastika flags, chanting “Blood and Soil,” you’re a friggin’ Nazi). There’s a reason I don’t talk about them which I will make clear in a minute.
Everyone knows what happened in Charlottesville, VA. Its been days, and nobody can seem to talk about anything else. Everywhere you turn, every TV channel, every radio station, every news website, and all over social media we are talking about nothing other than the chaos in Charlottesville, with no end to it in sight. There is a simple reason for that. The media is trying to paint all Republicans with the Nazi brush, and too many people on our side seem unable to stop taking the bait and playing along.
When Donald Trump won a miraculous victory for the Presidency last November, a series of events got set in motion. The Democrats were stunned over losing the presidency but they didn’t have time to wallow in their misery. They had a big election coming up here in Virginia this year and they needed an issue…something that could take the focus off their disastrous policies and their complete failure at the box office recently. They decided to go back to the basics and play the old tried and true ‘race card’ and thus the “Charlottesville statue” crisis was born. What better way to shift the debate than to bait a bunch of Republicans into defending the Confederacy?
For the Democrats, the plan worked better than they thought possible. Not only did they get a Republican candidate to champion the issue, they sparked interest from the Nazis, who had recently been given a higher profile than they deserve due to a few public figures, like David Duke, publicly endorsing Trump. This attempt to re-brand themselves as the ‘alt-right’ is an attempt to attach themselves to the Republican party (kind of like a leech on our collective hind quarters) and to try and get their ideas more into the mainstream.
Now the media is playing right along with the Nazis’ agenda of a higher profile because they are looking for a hook to label Trump as a racist and a Nazi. The reason the Nazis got so much attention during the campaign was an attempt by the media to paint Trump as a racist in the hopes of swaying the race to Hillary. As most of you probably know quite well by now, I am not a fan of Trump, but the idea that he is some kind of closeted Nazi is ludicrous. The man is an upper crust, Manhattan Liberal for cryin’ out loud. He’s no Nazi.
After the primaries discussion about the statue began to wane and the Nazis saw their platform slipping away and needed to make some noise. That’s why they scheduled the rally. It wasn’t put together to be a bunch of peaceful protesters opposing the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. It was a crowd full of Nazis itching for a fight. They knew their presence in Charlottesville would draw media attention, and they knew it would draw the BLM/Antifa idiots, which is exactly what they wanted. They wanted to provoke a violent conflict with the Antifa crowd and make sure it got as much air time as it could, and boy did they get what they wanted.
Now here is the key point to keep in mind. This is the trap that has been laid that President Trump and too many people on the right are falling into:
ALL of these groups (the Democrats, the Media, antifa, AND the Nazis) want Republicans to use this issue to attack the “thugs of the left.” ALL of them want our side to say, “yes, Nazis are bad, BUT the left is just as bad,” and too many on our side, including the President, are giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!
In far too many places, I see far too many Republicans giving the “Nazis are bad, BUT the alt-left is just as bad” argument. By making this morally relativistic argument, we are painting our party as sympathetic to the Nazis, whether we mean to or not, and it is damaging our party and the cause of Conservatism with it. Using the moral relativism argument makes every single one of these groups happy. It helps the Democrats and the media because they get to continue to paint us all as racist. It helps that antifa crowd because it puts them in the light of fighting against a foe everyone hates, and transforms a collection of pot-smoking thugs into virtuous defenders of liberty. Finally, it helps the Nazis because it keeps the media coverage going as CNN, MSNBC, et al continue to look for Republicans to go on the air and say, “the Nazis are bad, BUT…” This continues to give the Nazis more air time, which leads to more people talking about them, which leads to more clicks on their websites, which leads to a bigger platform for their twisted ideas, which could lead to more members…
…and THAT is why I don’t talk about Nazis. This collection of socially deviant miscreants isn’t worth ANY amount of air time or attention. These guys worship Adolf Hitler, a megalo-maniacal, gun grabbing, socialist pagan who would have sent Jesus Christ himself to the gas chamber for being a Jew. Their big “show of strength” in Charlottesville had them scraping up every racist they could find all over the country (even from as far as California) and they could only produce a crowd of a few hundred people. Think about that. People seriously think these morons “helped” Trump win the Presidency? They couldn’t scrape up enough support to win a seat on the Soil and Water Conservation Board, and half the time those seats go unopposed.
But when you talk about them, you give them a voice. When you pay attention to them, you give them a platform. Like the dying embers of a fire, if you blow on them, they get stronger and hotter. Give them enough air and fuel, and those embers can reignite into a blazing bonfire. That’s what happens when we allow this story to keep going. The media attention we are fueling with our attempts to “share the blame” of Charlottesville is like adding fuel and oxygen to the barely glowing embers of the handful of Nazis in this country. The more attention they get, the more rallies they will try and hold, and the chances of more violence (and more deaths) goes up exponentially.
They only way to end the story is for our side to condemn them in no uncertain terms. No moral relativism. No hedging. Just flat out condemnation and repudiation. Just like the cover up being worse than the scandal, the hedging of condemnation and the moral relativism is keeping this issue alive and on the air. The longer some on our side continue the hedging, the longer this story goes. If our side universally condemns the Nazis without exception and without the hedging there is no more controversy, and no more story. Then we ignore them. Deprive them of oxygen, and their embers will eventually die out.
I know the frustration many of you are feeling. I know you feel like the Democrats and the left always get away with bad behavior. Yes, you are absolutely right that it takes two to tango. Yes, you are absolutely right that the left was throwing punches, too. But it doesn’t matter. A twisted young man was so filled with hate that he purposefully drove his car into a crowded street with the sole purpose of trying to kill as many people as he could. He most likely self-radicalized himself on neo-nazi websites on the internet, just like some supporters of ISIS do.
There is no moral equivalence to that.
The saddest part of this whole story to me is that the “Charlottesville Statue” crisis story was built on a lie. There was no way the City of Charlottesville was ever going to move that statue. State law is crystal clear that once a monument such as the Lee statue has been erected, “it shall be unlawful for the authorities of the locality, or any other person or persons, to disturb or interfere with any monuments or memorials so erected.”
Everyone got played, and a young woman and two law enforcement officers ended up losing their lives because of it.
Not only that, but since Charlottesville it seems a corner has been turned, and a wave of removing these Confederate statues has been sparked all over the country, proving that once you add Nazis to the mix, things just get worse.
The Bible says, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven.” There will be a time to deal with the alt-left, but that is not today. Don’t think the Democrats are winning, though. Do you think the riots and destruction caused by BLM last year helped Democrat candidates? Think again. Right now, however, we need to deal with the thorn that seeks to burrow its way into our side, because we’re the only ones who can do it.
My grandfather, God rest his soul, fought in Europe in World War II. He fought against the ideology that these American Nazi pinheads choose to idolize, and I’ll be damned if I allow these traitors to the ideals of America to gain so much as a toehold of association with my party. So please, I am begging you. Stop the moral equivalency. Cut off the oxygen to the Nazis by cutting off the story that is dominating the media and send them back to the ash heap of history where they belong.
Once that is done we can focus our attention on the Democrats again.
