On Friday evening the manager of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington Virginia asked Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave because she works for President Trump. She politely left. Sanders said in a tweet following the incident,
I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so,”
The tweet had 22,000 responses in the first hour.
Sander’s father former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee also responded on his Twitter page, from the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the ‘Hate Plate,'” Huckabee said in a tweet, quickly generating 2,000 replies in about 30 minutes. “And appetizers are ‘small plates for small minds.'”
Ben Cline, candidate for Congress in the 6th district, also responded on Twitter,
On behalf of my hometown of Lexington, I want to apologize for the rudeness of one liberal New York transplant (who also happens to be Meryl Streep’s cousin). We hope you will come back and enjoy our area’s true southern hospitality.
New Yorkers, that explains a great deal about what transpired.
