Last night I had the privilege to attend a Candidate Forum hosted by Cardinal News of Southwest Virginia. The Forum was for the 2 candidates running in the 4th Senate District of Virginia – Republican Senator David Suetterlein vs Democrat challenger Trish White-Boyd (Member of the Roanoke City Council). Senate District 4 encompasses all of Roanoke City/Salem City, and parts of Roanoke and Montgomery Counties. The District is a lean Republican.
For those of us watching the event, it was quite clear to most if not all of the audience – no matter who you supported, that David Suetterlein was clearly the more knowledgeable of the 2 candidates, and that Council Member Trish White-Boyd clearly is not ready for prime time.
Ms. White-Boyd tried to portray herself as a tax cutting champion of the people, but was reminded on several occasions that she had the opportunity to have voted against the car tax and other regressive taxes, but never did so as a Member of the Roanoke City Council – which flustered the Councilor greatly.
Ms. White-Boyd then pretty much admitted that her party was extreme on abortion by saying that the law should remain as current on all abortions (currently the cut off is at 26 weeks), and when Senator Suetterlein thanked Ms. White-Boyd for going against her party and her endorsers on this issue, Ms. White-Boyd became even more frustrated. Her body language became very stiff.
Ms. White-Boyd then about lost it when she talked about how she was pro 2a, and then Senator Dave Suetterlein reminded the Council Member how she voted against gun owners. One could hear a pin drop in the room. At one time, the Councilor snapped at Mr. Suetterlein that they were there to “have a conversation” and not to “jab” at her (aka don’t point out my lies for all the voters to hear and judge for themselves).
Senator Suetterlein is one of the most effective legislators in Richmond. David was one of the leaders in getting the grocery tax repealed. David has passed legislation pertaining to election integrity. David has been a friend to our senior citizens, helping to pass legislation to increase access to vital services for seniors and those who are disabled. David is valued by law enforcement locally and around the state.
Ms. White-Boyd on the other hand, can try to portray herself as a champion of the people all day long, but at the end of the day, she’s nothing more than just another radical leftist trying to hide her true colors.
Don’t believe me, watch for yourself, the forum begins at the 31:00 mark (there are volume issues during the very beginning):
(A Special Shout Out to Dwayne Yancey and Cardinal News, who give some very good coverage of SW Virginia)
