“I believe in Scripture,” the 78-year-old lawmaker said in a statement. “Ecclesiastes says there is a time and place for everything.”
“This will allow the 200,000 people who live in the 12th Senate District (Henrico and Hanover) to have almost a year’s time to select a successor,” he said.
Senator Stosch is one of the three moderate republicans who supported Governor McAuliffe’s plans to expand medicaid. Senator John Watkins, another of the three moderates, is also retiring.
Senator Stosch hopes to spend more time with his 6 grandchildren.
