It would appear that Congress wants Syrian refugees settled far away from where they live and work. Of the 121 refugees brought to Virginia so far, 112 of them have been settled 100 miles or more from the nation’s capital. The majority of those refugees, 105, were settle in communities where the median income is below the average for the state.
Northern Virginia has some of the wealthiest counties in the country and a population of 1.7 million. Only 9 Syrian refugees were placed in Northern Virginia, all of them in Falls Church. (Might we assume that no Congressman or their families live in Falls Church?)
That means 93% of the refugees were settle at least 100 miles away from Congress, Charlottesville (116.9 miles away, according to Google Maps), Harrisonburg (130 miles away), Newport News (171 miles away), Powhatan (137 miles away) and Roanoke (240 miles away).
