The Washington Post is reporting that former Governor McAuliffe is re-staffing his political action committee. The committee was established during his brief run for President. Since McAuliffe is no longer running for President it’s likely the re-staffing of his PAC will be used for a run at the Governor’s mansion in 2021. From the WashingtonPost.com:
McAuliffe, whose term ended in January 2018, has hired Chris Bolling, executive director of the state Democratic party, to lead Common Good VA PAC. The PAC has been without full-time staff since McAuliffe announced in April that he would not run for president in 2020…..
As McAuliffe barnstormed the state on behalf of Democratic candidates this fall – attending 131 events – he never ruled out the possibility of his own return to the campaign trail.
A governor in Virginia cannot run for a second term but can run again after taking a break from the office. Virginia is the only state in the United States where a Governor can only run for one term. Is it time to change that?
