First the Senate Democrats refuse to fund NIH or the National Parks or the museums. Now the Obama administration has gone several steps beyond that, threatening to arrest WWII Vets for visiting their Memorial, closing private property and closing roads in and around Washington DC. They are actively trying to make the lives of citizens as difficult as possible so they can have their way in Congress. This is outrageous! Isn’t our government supposed to be for the people and by the people? How can any of this be about the people when it serves only to make their lives more difficult? Who issued the order to make the lives of citizens who live around Washington DC as difficult as possible?
The democrats have also closed the C&O Canal path to hikers and bikers and removed the well pump handles so there is no access to water along the canal. They have posted guards to make sure that no walker walks on the path that runs 184 miles from Washington to Cumberland Maryland. It’s costing more to keep the C&O path closed than it would be keep it open! They’ve also closed Tot Lots that cost them nothing!
Today the federal government closed George Washington’s home Mount Vernon, a privately owned entity! The feds have erected barriers around all the parking lots and preventing access by tour buses although the federal government pays nothing toward maintaining any of the lots. The official Mount Vernon website clearly says that they are private and open! They have also closed the privately owned Claude Moore Farm in McLean.
Today I learn that the government has closed, or will soon close, the George Washington Parkway, the Baltimore Washington Parkway, Clara Barton Parkway, Rock Creek Parkway, and the Potomac Parkway. So, how do we get to Reagan National Airport? Helicopter? Soon they will also close the Whitehurst Freeway and Eisenhower Freeway and possibly as soon tomorrow they will shut down metro stops at Arlington Cemetery, Smithsonian, Archives, Gallery Place and Eastern Market, all on federal land. Gee, I don’t remember this happening during other government shutdowns. The Obama administration has gone WAY too far, inconveniencing millions of people to make their petty point. It’s outrageous! This regime must be stopped! They are not behaving as the servants of the people!

The House has agreed to fund much of this, including the National Park Service which would keep our roads open. Senate democrats and the President have refused. It’s time we put pressure on them to pass those funding bills and stop holding drivers, bikers, and walkers hostage! Tell Obama that he cannot be allowed to do this! Tell him that he cannot be THE ONLY President to have ever refused to negotiate with Congress during a shutdown. Tell Senate democrats that they must pass the House funding bills for the National Park Service and NIH! Don’t let them get away with making our lives as difficult as possible. Pass the bills, and open our roads and metro stops, NOW!
UPDATE: The Park Service continues to close private businesses, with an effort to hurt as many businesses to possible while impacting and inconveniencing as many citizens as possible. Congress isn’t ordering any of this. The Park Service works for the President. Why aren’t they furloughed, rather than working overtime to make things worse for all of us? It’s disgusting.
