On Monday morning the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments about Virginia’s redistricting case which heavily favors Democrats. Twenty-six districts in the House of Delegates would be affected if the latest redistricting map is allowed to stand. It is likely the Democrats would pick up 6 seats in in this fall’s election, more than enough to swing the House of Delegates to Democrat control.
House Speaker Kirk Cox wants the Supreme Court to throw out the new map and re-instate the old map. The court must first decide if the Republicans have a right to appeal this case to the Supreme Court after a lower court ordered the state to draw new districts in 11 districts.
