While perusing my facebook feed this morning, I came across a meme that caught my eye. It was a picture of President Trump with these words: “I trust this man more than I trust anyone in Washington DC.”
That struck me as peculiar and very indicative of the state of politics in our beloved country. While I’m sure the person posting was an ardent Trump supporter, I’m sure liberal Democrats would not hesitate to post a similar meme about President Obama.
I’m the first one to admit that President Trump does have a reputation for making comments off the cuff and later discovered to be inaccurate. He is a victim of his own style. There is a reason that previous presidents had large communication staffs and didn’t do a lot of unscripted press interactions.
All things being equal, there is a case to be made for having every press release, tweet and comment vetted for precision and consistency. Having said that, all things are not equal. There is a reason that this president refuses to filter his messaging only through traditional media methods.
That reason is that the media does not report fairly and accurately on President Trump. That is an indisputable fact. If the president didn’t go directly to the American people with his Twitter and impromptu press conferences, most Americans would have no idea what his real thinking is.
CNN is a big target of the president. I believe it is a well-earned moniker. This is not the same CNN as Bernhard Shaw. Shaw was a liberal news anchor who reported honestly and opined separately, ala Walter Cronkite who offered his personal opinions at the end of his broadcast.
As an example, the Pittsburgh shooting is still fresh in the news. The suspect is an unhinged, unabashed, anti-semitic Trump hater. That is confirmed on every network, including CNN. Yet, this morning CNN has been doing a full press on blaming president Trump for the shooting.
They (CNN) blamed the lunatic mail bomber last week on President Trump. They never ever blamed the Congressional softball practice shooter on his hero and mentor, Bernie Sanders. I am not the only one to notice. American voters have begun to conclude that they are not getting the news fair and balanced.
Once upon a time, cable news networks did hard-hitting news reports all day, then in the evening, opinion shown. I was a huge Crossfire fan its first few years on CNN. It was fair and balanced. Now all pretense of fairness has, for the most part, evaporated.
MSNBC is a joke as a 24/7/365 purveyor of partisan news. An unapologetic and full throttle rhetoric cannon for the leftwing of the Democrat Party. The Washington Post and New York Times are not far behind.
Liberals will tell you that Fox News is the same thing on the right. I say that is wrong. I will concede that the evening opinion shows are conservative, offering up a Republican narrative. The difference is that the News Division at Fox actually performs unbiased news coverage during the day that is not opinion based.
I also offer that the Fox Business Network, along with the Wall Street Journal gives you the real, unbiased financial news, along with how the politics will affect your family financially. While the WSJ leans right editorially, it doesn’t affect how they report the news.
My case to you is that the president has a very tough relationship with big media, not just in the US, but abroad as well. The historic low unemployment numbers for women and minorities was soft-pedaled in the media until the president hammered it. The sky-rocketing stock market was either ignored or falsely attributed to President Obama by the Democrat Party controlled big media.
Does President Trump get it wrong sometimes? Yes. If the president could trust big media to accurately report and cover his administration, I believe those cases would be fewer and further between. Can we trust President Trump only to advance policies that will benefit the entire nation and put America first? Absolutely.
No president that I know of has had a punch list from their campaign that they truly work every day to complete. This bull-in-a-china-shop president broke the mold and is redefining what we consider success. Unlike his predecessor, he is defining these things up, not down. We simply call it MAGA!
