Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall (R-Prince William) wants the General Assembly to declare Pornography a public health hazard. The summary of Marshall’s Bill HJ549,
Pornography; public health hazard. Recognizes pornography as a public health hazard leading to a broad spectrum of individual and public health impacts and societal harms.
In an interview on Thursday Delegate Marshall said:
We’ve got to say, this is a problem, before smoking was identified as a problem, at least the recognition that it led to certain pathologies was a starting point to put restrictions on it. . . . If you recognize it as a problem, then you’re going to try to find ways to solve it within the framework of the statutes we can pass and the institutions we have.”

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly recognize pornography as a public health hazard leading to a broad spectrum of individual and public health impacts and societal harms; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly recognize the need for education, prevention, research, and policy change at the community and societal level in order to address the pornography epidemic that is harming the people of the Commonwealth and the nation.
