If Tim Kaine wins the Vice Presidency Governor McAuliffe could appoint himself to fill Kaine’s senate seat but 83% of likely Virginia voters would oppose that action according to a new Mary Washington University poll.
Forty percent of those who don’t want McAuliffe appointed Senator don’t know who they would like McAuliffe to appoint to fill a Senate vacancy. Of those voters who did express a preference, 15% support Congressman Bobby Scott, 10% favor Congressman Gerry Connolly, 10% like Attorney General Mark Herring for the position, and 8% like Congressman Don Beyer. Eleven percent favored none of those 4 candidates.
Even more surprising 68% of voters support medicaid expansion with only 26% opposed. The percentage of those who support medicaid expansion has gone up by 1% each year for the last two years.
Fifty-three percent of voters approve of the job McAuliffe is doing.
