Democratic Party’s Cynical “Under New Management” Ploy 

Numerous news stories make clear that the leadership of the Democratic Party is deeply concerned over numerous polls and other indications that President Biden is in serious danger of losing the Presidential election and damaging the prospects of many Congressional Democrats seeking election or re-election. Since President Biden won a clear and decisive majority of delegates to ensure his formal nomination at upcoming Democratic National Convention (“Convention”), the Democratic Party leadership has been trying to persuading him to withdraw from the race and declare his delegates are free to vote for another candidate at the Convention.  If President Biden refuses to withdraw from the race, the Democratic leadership faces the dilemma of whether they should: 

(1) allow the pledged delegates to cast their votes for President Biden at the Convention and formally declare him the Party’s nominee for the 2024 election, or 

(2) persuade a sufficient number of pledged delegates to (a) vote present, (b) abstain from voting, or (c) vote for another Democrat in order to prevent President Biden from winning a majority of delegate votes on the first ballot, thereby forcing an open convention. 

Whether the Democratic Party leadership (1) succeeds in persuading President Biden to withdraw, or (2) succeeds in forcing an open convention and getting another Democrat nominated in place of President Biden, either result would show the Democratic Party leadership is only interested in using a cynical ploy to try to fool the voters and save the Democratic Party from facing an electoral reckoning in November 2024. 

The Democratic Party selected Joe Biden to be its nominee for President in 2020 and actively supported his Biden’s election campaign. The Congressional Democrats have supported Biden’s nominees, supported Biden’s legislative priorities and proposed legislation, supported Biden’s Executive Orders and Proclamations, supported Biden’s regulatory policies and regulatory actions, and fought tenaciously to fund the proposals and requests made by Biden and his Administration. In addition, most Congressional Democrats have turned a blind eye and remained mostly silent in the face of (a) Biden’s disastrous handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021, (b) Biden’s open borders policies and practices, (c) Biden’s refusal to abide by a Supreme Court decision declaring his student loan forgiveness plan to be not authorized by Federal law, and (d) the abundant evidence of Biden’s cognitive decline and impaired ability to handle the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the President. 

None of this negative track record will be changed if the Democrats merely persuade President Biden to withdraw from the race or succeed in replacing him with another Democrat at the Convention in August 2024. None of this negative track record will be extenuated or mitigated if Democrats merely substitute another Democrat as their Presidential nominee. None of the adverse consequences and harmful effects of President Biden’s policies and action will be changed one bit if the Democrats merely substitute another Democrat as their Presidential nominee in 2024. 

Imagine a business that sold shoddy goods, provided poor service, treated customers badly, failed to deliver on its promises or commitments, engaged in questionable practices, or engaged in some combination of the above. Imagine further that the business replaces its CEO or chief manager, but does not acknowledge its failings, fails to apologize to its aggrieved customers and make amends to them, and declines to take any steps to change its practices or behavior. How offensive and obnoxious would it be if such a business simply declared it was “Under New Management” and did nothing else? Why should any past or prospective customer trust and deal with such a business if it simply declared it was “Under New Management” and did nothing else? 

The Democrats would be no better than such a business if they merely replace President Biden with another Democrat and said nothing and did nothing about their actions in promoting Joe Biden’s election in 2020, and supporting and facilitating the policies and actions of President Biden (and his Administration) that have had damaging and harmful effects on the United States, its foreign relations, its economy, and many of its people. 

The voters should not be fooled by the Democratic Party’s cynical “Under New Management” ploy. In the November 2024 election, the voters should not let any Democrat candidate who supported and facilitated the policies and actions of President Biden and his Administration off the hook simply because of a cynical “Under New Management” ploy by the Democratic Party leadership.
