Yesterday Senator Dick Black (VA13) called on FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe to resign because of his conflict of interest when investigating the Clinton email scandal as the Democrats and McAuliffe were funding large amounts of money to his wife’s campaign for Virginia Senate. Dr. Jill McCabe ran against Senator Black in 2015. McCabe took in $1.6, just under twice what Senator Black raised. Much of the money came from McAuliffe’s PAC.
Governor McAuliffe has dismissed the WSJ article siting the conflict of interest, blaming it on “the silly season”
Republican Party of Virginia John Whitbeck does not find this conflict of interest silly. He responded by issuing a FOIA request to the Governor:
“Hillary Clinton and Terry McAuliffe have a long history of ethically suspect, self-serving relationships. Today’s Wall Street Journal story brings one more of them to light. As Democrats attempt to sweep this scandal under the rug, it’s important to remember that Terry McAuliffe cleared the field for Dr. McCabe – a political neophyte who had never run for office before.”
“Terry McAuliffe is many things, but stupid isn’t one of them. Given the chance to put a few favors in the bank at the FBI for Clinton Inc., Governor McAuliffe jumped at the chance. The fact that both he and Hillary Clinton fell under FBI investigation proves just what a wise investment this was.”
“Today, at my direction, the Republican Party of Virginia is filing a Freedom of Information Act request with Governor McAuliffe’s office for any and all communications related to Dr. Jill McCabe’s 2015 campaign for state Senate. While the Governor’s PAC is not a public organization, we also call on Terry McAuliffe to release any and all emails to and from that organization related to Dr. McCabe’s campaign.”
“Given his history, Governor McAuliffe simply has no credibility when it comes to scandals like this. If he wants Virginians to believe that he wasn’t buying a reprieve for himself and Hillary Clinton, he should be willing to prove it.”
