Seems the 7th District GOP nomination has officially entered its silly season.
Following an attack on John McGuire from Freitas-allied groups on abortion that even Nick Freitas himself said was untrue, now another outside group has dredged up some old Fake News article to try to smear Conservative Delegate John McGuire.
This sort of thing only happens when the attacking side is CLEARLY behind the side being attacked.
The article in question is from a left-wing community paper called the “Henrico Citizen”, which may be the only publication in Virginia to have less credibility than Bearing Drift. Feel free to esteem them up there with CNN and MSNBC, as sources of news go.
This paper fabricated a quote about Del. McGuire, which he NEVER SAID, in an article in which the paper was promoting gun control laws.
The problem is, McGuire never said it- at all- and in fact, completely opposes any gun control legislation. In fact, he has been endorsed by the VCDL (no squish organization they) and the NRA during his runs for office.
The proof in the pudding of this garbage attack is the fact that Freitas votes 100% with John McGuire on gun legislation. Just as he votes 100% with McGuire on legislation related to Life.
But more to the point, let’s review the gun bills John McGuire has written and sponsored and voted for in the GA, shall we?
1. Arming School Resource Officers to keep kids safe (this was what McGuire ACTUALLY talked to the Citizen about in 2017).
2. Allowing carry in Churches.
3. Allowing citizens to sue the government for crimes committed against them in “gun free zones”.
Aside from that, John is also a gun owner.
As is often the case, unfortunately blatently false attacks often come out in the waning days of races. Be smarter than to believe them. There ARE a few policy differences between McGuire and Freitas- on pot legalization and gambling casinos, for instance- but on Life and Guns, Nick Freitas votes 100% with John McGuire.
And that, as they say, is the real scoop.
