Recently the House of Delegates voted to pass HB 2123 by a vote of 58 to 42. The bill allows for financial assistance at Virginia Universities, colleges, and community colleges, to all students regardless of their immigration status.
Three Republicans voted with the Democrats to pass the bill. One of those was Glenn Davis (R-84th) who is currently running for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor. (A list of all statewide candidates can be found here.) The other two Republicans voting for this bill were Carrie E. Coyner (R-62) and Roxann Robinson (R-27).
However, this bill for financial assistance, and the previous law to provide in-state tuition to illegal immigrants may run a fowl of a federal statute.
