On Tuesday Delegate Ben Cline (R-24) was elected to Congress to represent Virginia’s 6th district. He will replace the retiring Congressman Bob Goodlatte. Speaker of the House of Delegates, Kirk Cox, has called for a special election on December 18th to fill Cline’s seat. Ben Cline will resign his delegate seat effective that day. - November 13 – Speaker Cox formally issues Writ of Election
- November 19 – Filing deadline for political parties to nominate candidates, pursuant to § 24.2-510 of the Code of Virginia
- December 12 – Voter registration deadline, pursuant to § 24.2-416 of the Code of Virginia
- December 18 – Special Election
We previously reported on the four Republicans vying for the nomination in the 24th district. No Democrats have expressed an interest in running for the seat. On November 19th Republicans will have a firehouse primary to chose their candidate.
