Scott Wyatt Appeals the 97th District Committee Actions

written by Mick Staton May 14, 2019

Scott Wyatt has filed an appeal with the 1st Congressional District Committee over the actions of the 97th Legislative District Committee to ignore the results of the convention held on May 4th, and to change the method of nomination to a primary.

On January 19th, 2019, the 97th District Committee selected a convention as its method of nomination to be held on May 4th. Scott Wyatt filed to run against incumbent, Chris Peace. King William, New Kent, and Hanover Counties all held mass meetings in April to elect delegates and alternates to the convention.

When it became clear that Chris Peace would lose the convention, the Hanover County Chairwoman, Dale Taylor, removed Scott Wyatt from the 97th LDC and replaced him with a vocal Chris Peace supporter who is not even a member of the Hanover County Republican Committee.

On May 1st, 2019, 3 days before the convention was to held, the 97th LDC voted to cancel the convention and hold a primary instead.

Against the wishes of RPV Chairman, Jack Wilson (who has no official role in this process), the May 4th convention went ahead as scheduled and overwhelmingly elected Scott Wyatt as the nominee for the 97th House of Delegates District.

The current membership of the 97th LDC is ignoring these results and has issued a call for a firehouse primary on June 1st.

Scott Wyatt is challenging the committee’s ability to change the method of nomination after a one has previously been selected and after so many irreversible actions have been completed.
