11 Great day trips to take this summer in Virginia

written by Jeanine Martin June 4, 2017

Once again Only in Virginia has a list of day trips for you and your family to enjoy this summer.

Fun for the whole family when you pick your own strawberries at Liberty Farm in charming Somerset Virginia in beautiful Orange County.

There is so much to do and enjoy on Chincoteague Island, it’s well worth the trip.  It’s Virginia’s only resort island and is inhabited by wild horses.  Enjoy the wild dunes, the beach, and fun places to eat.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards is near Charlottesville in North Garden VA. Enjoy the beautiful views, food, and wine tastings.

What could be better on a summer day in Virginia than exploring the Ice Cream Trail?

Children and adults would enjoy a trip to this unusual park in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia Safari Park with many exotic animals to see and feed.

The largest antique mall in the country is in Verona Virginia.  The building covers 121,000 square feet!

Old Rag Mountain is considered to be among the best hikes in the country. The views are stunning.

In my neck of the woods, Loudoun County, is Snickersville Turnpike (Route 734), a beautiful drive of 15 miles beginning near Aldie and Middleburg and ending in Bluemont. (Bluemont was originally named Snickersville.) The turnpike a rural road with gorgeous farms. vineyards and great views.  The Turnpike was the first toll road in Virginia in the early 1800’s.  George Washington traveled the turnpike. More information on the historic Snickersville Turnpike here.

The White Rocks Overlook and Sand Cave hike is one of the best and most interesting hikes in Virginia.

Floyd Virginia is a small town in Southwest Virginia on The Crooked Road, famous for Bluegrass music including the well known Stanley Brothers and the views around the town aren’t bad either.

Also in Loudoun county is Harpers Ferry Adventure Center in Purcellville with many outdoor activities including large zip lines through the woods.

Lastly, the Luray Caverns and the amazing Wishing Well.  Everyone should visit the caverns at least once.
