An Open Letter of Thanks to our Republican Congressional Delegation

written by John Massoud August 9, 2018

An Open Letter of Thanks to Bob Goodlatte, Scott Taylor, Barbara Comstock, Dave Brat, Scott Taylor, Tom Garrett, Bob Wittman, and President Donald J Trump

As most of us are aware, in 2010 Congress passed Obama Care.  And since 2012 many of us have seen our health care insurance costs skyrocket.  And more times than we want to imagine, we lost our health insurance plans which many of us (myself included) had for years  were cancelled and we were forced to purchase insurance plans we did not want, which offered lesser coverage, higher co-pay, coverage for things we did not want or need, and massively increased costs.  My employees lost their health care plans in both 2012 and again in 2015 and were forced to purchase plans which offered lesser coverage at a much higher premium with a higher co-pay. And we were told by the Democratic party that this was a good thing, and we should thank Barack Obama for this privilege.  My insurance costs personally went up by over 100% from 2012-2016 and some of my employees saw even higher premium increases.

Then along came Donald J Trump and after winning in November 2016, he made Obama Care repeal and replace his 1st priority.  Now while Obama Care was not repealed and replaced, the fact remains that the individual mandate was killed off in the tax reform bill.  And other patient centric reforms were put into place through executive order. Dick Morris calls this Trump Care. People can now purchase insurance policies which are tailored to their own needs.  And Donald Trump has come up with a policy (again through executive action) which will allow for us to keep our policies that we like for life, and the insurance companies must keep rates the same (adjusted for inflation of course) but they are getting more guaranteed customers.

The end result – in our company – for the 1st time since 2011 – our insurance rates have remained the same.   Now this is only a start – insurance premiums need to go down significantly.  But for the 1st time in years we are seeing the tide start to turn.

So to the members of the Virginia delegation listed above who supported and voted for the end of the individual mandate – I want to thank you personally on behalf of myself and each of my employees.   To Ben Cline and Denver Riggleman – we know you will keep your promises to move the ball forward on patient centric health care reform. And a special thanks to Donald Trump who has forced Republicans to actually keep their promises and has been looking out for us and not for the donor class.

A special shout out to Michael Cannon of the Kato Institute – who broke the news on this.
