Despite rampant speculation to the contrary, at times fueled by the Sheriff himself, Mike Wade has declined to mount an actual challenge to incumbent Rep. Dave Brat for the 7th district GOP nomination.
Today’s development means Rep. Brat will be the Republican nominee from the 7th District.
Wade had previously indicated an intent to announce a challenge, when it was presumed the 7th District Republican Committee would choose a primary to determine the party’s nominee. In the interim, district lines shifted, tilting weight on the district committee towards a more grassroots-friendly convention to choose the nominee. Wade and his backers apparently did not have the stomach for a convention challenge.
Sources with the 7th District Committee also indicate that Goochland GOP Chairman Ben Slone will be deemed elected as the next chairman of the 7th District Committee, as he was the only candidate to file. Recent speculation had Chesterfield Chairman Donald Williams as a potential competitor to Slone.
Opponents of Brat, who had been backing Wade’s potential challenge, appear to have instead trained their energy on reclaiming seats on the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee that were lost in re-districting. As part of this effort, they successfully maneuvered to ensure that convention delegates who will vote on these party offices must pay a mandatory filing fee. This was an effort to cut any coat tails Rep. Brat might have been able to provide for allied State Central Committee candidates.
The 7th District Convention is May 21st, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

OVERJOYED!!!! So TRUTH and INTEGRITY DO MATTER!!
BLESSINGS TO DAVE BRAT FOR A JOB WELL DONE…MARCH ON…YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE VICTORY….YOU HAVE A RIGHTEOUS COMMANDER IN CHIEF and HE sits at the RIGHT HAND of the FATHER! Your enemies don’t have a chance.
Like I posted on Bearing D, (but it got promptly deleted) – who’s getting “purged” now? (for those of you who do not know, a certain BD writer is always talking about “purging” those he terms “‘nativists'” from the RPV. Basically, BD has really had an incessant tirade against Congressman Brat going for some time now.
Who do you think of when the word “Purge” comes up?
Yes… looks like the Nativists are leaving Bearing Drift’s to their own party. There will be Kenney, Schmuckman, Junior Hoefty that Spiker guy. Hey Bearing Drift… you succeed in making everyone leave your party and vote for Trump. That is almost as good as Schmuckman losing campaign to be on the Fairfax BOS to an hispanic who believes in border control… Oh the butt hurt that Bearing Drift has been feeling… losing their main money boy Eric Cantor… Trump wins VA… people want borders… There, there you pathetic little cucksters..
Excellent! I donated to Brat a few weekends ago
I can’t make big donations, but may donate to Brat if anyone. Trump at least doesn’t need it, and we need to shore up those who stand up for us like Dave Brat.
Thanks for whatever you can do!
Wonderful news! Thank you Sheriff Wade!
Glad to hear it.
Best news I have seen ALL DAY! Kudos to Sheriff Mike Wade for making the right choice and getting back to the continue to do the good work he was re-elected to do. We in the 7th are proud that we have a Congressman who does what he says and is the same guy today as he was 3 years ago.
Quick … someone check and see how Bearing Drift is doing! They told us that Brat would never get re-elected.
BD also has writers who want to “purge” the party of anyone who opposes open borders and giving illegals, well, everything. And this was before the Trump phenomena. And this from the same writers who do not want to make the Rep. party the “Party of Subtraction”.
