The Chairman of the 4th district Republican Committee, Jack Wilson, will take over the leadership of the Republican Party of Virginia at the next meeting of the State Central Committee in September.
Wilson is the choice of the Vice Chairman (now acting Chairman) of the party Mike Thomas. Wilson has also secured the support of 52 members (two-thirds) of the committee. Party leaders in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th and 9th districts and finance chair Jerry Kilgore are also in support of Wilson.
Previous RPV chair John Whitbeck resigned effective July 21st. Wilson will be voted in as chair at the SCC meeting on September 8th.
Wilson is aware that our candidate for Senate, Corey Stewart, does not have the full support of many Republicans. Some of our Congressional candidates will not appear with Stewart. Wilson recognizes the problem. From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
“Each of our nominees is going to run the campaign that suits their congressional district.”
“None of us is under the illusion that the next few months or years will be easy in Virginia,” Wilson wrote. “The Democrat trend in Virginia was built over many years, due to a variety of factors, and the political landscape will not change overnight.
“But, we must start here and now not only to stop the trend, but to reverse it. While I can’t guarantee we will always be victorious, I can guarantee that we will work together with maximum effort for our nominees.”
I don’t expect to see Corey Stewart campaigning with Barbara Comstock in the 10th district. Many other districts are just as unlikely to see our candidate for Senate campaigning alongside their Congressional candidate. However, as you would expect, Jack Wilson is calling for party unity.
Chuck Smith, Virginia Beach attorney, also sought the Chairman of RPV but was not supported by the leadership of RPV, Mike Thomas. However, Smith was supported by many in the grassroots. Also from the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Smith said he has reached out to members of the State Central Committee and many have not returned his calls. He faulted what he called “the good old boy system.”
Without speaking to him and reading his credentials, Smith said, “how do you know which candidate is the best?”
Smith is correct but RPV leadership (the good old boy system) runs this show.

Interesting how all these lawyers always seem to have tons of spare time to dabble in politics. Do they have a high divorce rate as well?
Gotta be good for business. Maybe they get… referrals?
heads up ~ Regardless of what you read here anywhere, It is Not over and votes are being flipped as I write. And they are being flipped for Chuck ! This is absolute ! Amen ! it is Not over ~ the establishment wants you to believe that. Support Chuck, contact your people who are connected to SCC. at once ! Ty
Chuck Smith would have been the best for the job. RPV needs less “old boy network” and more results.
I’d be happy with one not tired of winning.
From Chuck Smith’s Facebook page –
“Pathetic! With all due respect to Jack, his words are a concession speech, a surrender. I want to hear my Chairman FIGHT for Corey Stewart, FIGHT for President Donald J. Trump, FIGHT for the Republican Party I love, and not concede one damn inch even until the last hour. The midterms are in November, and it seems that Jack has no faith and has already lost hope before he has even been elected. Where is the fighter in him? We are all in this together, not just Jack. And, it’s not the Democrats’ fault. We’ve got some serious issues that we need to clean up in our own house. Lead, follow or get out of the way. This chairmanship race, it isn’t over.”
Chuck Smith is absolutely correct!
Hold on, I need to get some popcorn
Pay attention, you can learn from this.
Yeah, except he’s not correct. It’s over. Mike Thomas has spoken and since the establishment controls SCC, he will get his choice.
There is a sickness afoot in Virginia’s Republica politics.
And the TBE commenters are the cure!!!
It ain’t over until we say its over… and we get a roll call vote illustrating retiree status.
Damn straight!
When the RPV continues to discount a man like Chuck Smith, you continue to alienate constituents. We don’t want the Mike Thomas type anymore.
Trump will form a new party – The America Party which will unite the those who revere the Constitution.
Wilson is just more the establishment controlling the real working Americans.
Trump is acquiring the GOP — in some places a hostile takeover.
Jack Wilson is a stand up guy.
What’s his background? How has he won for the 4th?

I don’t have much confidence in the student government-like incompetent RPV Board of Directors known as the SCC. But I will lean on mine and try to make their weaselty painfully obvious.
However mike Thomas or Speaker Cox might then just make a flexible noise or point out a shiny bauble and they will be distracted again.
Isn’t there an out of district Dem in the 4th?
If there were, I’m sure we would have heard about it from the 4th GOP machine right?
Yes, he is. From what I’ve heard he’s an honest man which is not all that common in politics. However, he is the Establishment’s pick, someone they can control and will always support primaries in Virginia.
Our processes are so fouled up that taxpayer-screwing primaries are more fair than our rigged Mass Convention Meetings.
Jack Wilson is probably a great guy, but his public statements above signal to me, tired of winning.
Jeanine, he is my pick and has been from the moment he was willing to be chairman, a thankless task as any prior chair can attest to. Jack is a humble and quite competent ally for conservative, libertarians and the faction less who simply want to republicans to win again statewide in Virginia and maintain a majority in the house and senate. #StandWithJack
Once again Jeanine shows her leaning bias and once again she is inaccurate. Part of the Stewart team has been campaigning in unity in the 1st district with Congessman Rob Whitman and local GOP candidates at the Fredericksburg Ag Fair. Additionally, the Fairfax County GOP leadership has been offering their structure to assist Corey and many in their ranks are part of our grassroots team. In fact, the top management of Stewart campaign is a merger of RPV, GOP and grassroots. Let me also mention that the RPV gun show booth has been utiling volunteers from all campaigns to obtain ballot signatures. The Stewart camp has a team at the RPV booth this weekend at Chantilly show and will be staffing their booths around the state through October in support of their efforts for Corey and local GOP candidates. We are also merging forces in Loudoun, Prince William and many counties down in south and southwest. Don’t dance a happy tune yet, Jeanine, because as President Trump has stated, “never under estimate Corey Stewart.”
When did I mention the 1st district not supporting Corey? Or FCRC?
Why would ‘dance a happy tune’ when the GOP loses another statewide race?
Besides, one dances a happy dance and one sings a happy tune, like what we will see when Trunp and Corey get Babs re-elected.
LOL, you continue to crack me up. There’s far too much Trump hatred in the 10th for any of that to happen.
That’s what will make it all the more delicious — does Babs want to win more than she wants to sneer at Trump and Corey?
What Democrat is going to think: “Gosh, she’s just like us, so let’s vote for her instead of our nominee?”
At some point she will realize that Neville Chamberlain didn’t do that well electorally over all and she needs a different role model. Hopefully it is before the election.
It will be interesting to see how Corey dodges racist/alt right (whatever that is) labels from the left. Do I believe they’re accurate? No, but i haven’t seen any evidence that is happening yet. It needs to.
Spox Rick Shaftan isn’t doing him any favors in this regard.
That story will be a blockbuster and not in a good way.
If everyone is a racist than nobody is.
The Corey tables in Chantilly were campaigning for Babs.
Corey/Babs voters are aligned (voters, not supporters) Seemingly, the only thing they have in common is being Republicans that want to win.
Chuck Smith would make a fantastic leader of the RPV. He has solid character, he’s a great communicator, he is a 100% behind ALL our Republican candidates, and he has the energy and enthusiasm to make a real difference for Virginia. He has only one problem. He isn’t going to kowtow to the establishment RPV mafia and will instead support the vast majority of the Republican voters in Virginia, which is not the same as the majority of the SCC.
100% agree!^
I can’t say I know anything about Jack Wilson, but Chuck Smith was the man for this hour. That’s another opportunity lost by RPV. Those missed opportunities keep adding up.
Things re happening right now through my contacts and numerous others colleagues who have the connections…….

The Chairman’s #1 job is to raise money.
In fact, that is pretty much the Chairman’s ONLY job.
I’d be curious to know how much he can on a phone in hour.
English please, Comrade.
If he got 2/3 of the SCC on the phone to support him, clearly he can do the financial outreach.
Whoever the chairman is, he’d better get on the phones and raise money quickly. RPV has only $37,436.23 cash on hand. https://www.fec.gov/data/committee/C00001305/
I’ll make up a conspiracy that the low balance is purposeful to sabotage Corey Stewart. “Sorry, Corey. We’d love to help but we are broke. There’s nothing we can do.”
I’m recalling the Cuccinelli torpedoing by the GOPe who apparently is willing to cut off its own horn to spite its face.
Frankly, I don’t know why I bother. Jack, who? At least I know who Chuck Smith is.
Wonder what the RPV leadership would look like without the efforts of grassroots volunteers. Those leaders stand on the shoulders of thousands of anonymous party members.
The good ol’ boys may think they run the show but experience has proved them wrong often before and I hope will do so once again. Feels like they are in grade school with their beating on their chest bravado. They shouldn’t count their chickens before they’ve hatched: the only votes count are the ones that will be cast that day. Remember, Hillary thought she had the election sewn up too.
An ardent supporter of both President Trump and our senatorial candidate Corey Stewart, Chuck Smith is a stalwart, breath of fresh air in the fetid, #NeverTrump Swamp in Richmond. The more people hear and see of Chuck, the more they like him, and recognize he’s just what our Party desperately needs: an Party-outsider with an impressive resume, and principles who’s got what it takes to lead us to state-wide victory. What a welcome change that will be when we start winning again!
Sorry, but the good ol’ boys run the party and would never allow someone Chuck Smith to be in charge. Mike Thomas decides who will be RPV chair, that’s the ‘Virginia Way’ and has been for decades. That may have something to do with why the GOP hasn’t won a statewide seat since 2009.
Thank you for that. I keep asking why we have majorities in the House of Delegates and the State Senate and couldn’t vote quickly enough for medicaid expansion – something that has failed in other states. It’s all about the money and the power. The republican elites are dragging down Virginia and in the next few decades, we will be Connecticut.
You get 3-5 SCC members in every district — make sure they know your feelings and intensity.
If that is the McGuire Woods Mike Thomas, then Wilson would have to be an establishment hack in order to get that position.
Are they both Catholics? It seems the GOP is being run by Catholics. Just like that other “blog”. Before you say it ain’t true, please make sure you know who is what.
My opinion based on facts and reality.
First SC, now the SCC — damned papists with their Carpenter Cult is EVERYWHERE!!!
these are All connected to establishment Cantorites….Support Chuck Smith, contact state central ~ it is real easy……its Not to late ~
Where does the SCC hold their meetings again?
McGuire Woods! Of course!
Simply spectacular in the true sense of the word.
