Within the next few days Mital Gandhi of Ashburn intends to declare his candidacy to represent Loudoun’s Broad Run District on the Board of Supervisors.[read_more] Gandhi hopes to win the Republican nomination to replace Shawn Williams as Shaun runs for Chairman of the Board. Mr. Gandhi describes himself as Real Estate Developer and Entrepreneur. He is backed by Algonkian District Supervisor Suzanne Volpe.
Mr. Gandhi’s campaign will face some major obstacles. Until recently Gandhi has lived in DC where he was a supporter of the former democrat Mayor Adrian Fenty. Gandhi contributed $200 to Fenty’s Mayoral campaign in 2006 and $300 to his 2010 campaign. In 2007 Mayor Fenty appointed Gandhi to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. In August of 2009 Gandhi was the primary organizer for a Meet and Greet fundraiser for Fenty at the W Hotel. A few months later Mayor Fenty nominated Gandhi to fill a seat on the DC Board of Elections and Ethics. Questions and concerns arose which are detailed here. Gandhi lost his bid to be on the Board of Elections and Ethics. That story here.
While on the Alcohol Beverage Control Board in 2008, Gandhi had the worse attendance record on the board, attending only 29% of their meetings.
Gandhi was also an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC 3F05) but that was not without problems. It seems some of his petitions for his candidacy had fraudulent signatures and only 20 signatures were required. He was then forced to run as an independent and he won.
Mr. Gandhi has had financial problems, 6 lawsuits have been filed against him in DC Superior Court (Landlord and Tenant Court and Small Claims Court) for failure to pay rent. Those cases are:
2005 SC2 008305
2006 LTB 020462
2007 LTB 009712
2007 SC2 008536
2008 LTB 032651
2008 SC3 002074
If Mr. Gandhi is unable to handle his personal finances and pay his rent in a timely manner how can we trust him to spend nearly a billion dollars of our tax money? We can’t. Gandhi needs to reconsider a run for the Board of Supervisors.
The Broad Run District already has a fine man running to represent them, Republican Ron Meyer. More on this impressive young man here.
