Paul Begala's sexist Comstock remark promoted by Foust and Democratic Party

written by Jamie Radtke July 28, 2014

Barbara Comstock has a “really almost sick, sort of stalker-like obsession with President Clinton.”

~Paul Begala (former Clinton campaign adviser)

Paul Begala is the former political adviser to Bill Clinton who admittedly has a personal grudge against Delegate Barbara Comstock for her tenacious pursuit of truth throughout the numerous Clinton scandals. Comstock investigated President Clinton while working 15 years ago for Congressman Frank Wolf and for the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight. In those roles she researched and investigated Clinton’s infamous Travelgate, selling slumber parties in the White House Lincoln bedroom in exchange for campaign donations, Monicagate and more.

Clearly Comstock’s previous work would not put her at the top of Begala’s Facebook friend list, but he is allowing his personal feelings to interfere with his judgment. I suppose depositions will do that to a person.  Begala’s grudge was readily apparent to the Politico reporter who stated:

In an interview, Begala bitterly recalled one time during the ’90s when Comstock approached him in the parking lot of the church they both attended and asked, with a straight face, “Have I deposed you yet?”

Bitterness and grudges aside, Begala should not get a pass for his derogatory remark. Barbara Comstock is a Georgetown graduate, accomplished attorney, business owner, and legislator. Comstock has a reputation for hard work, critical thinking, a commitment to details, and dogged (aka obsessive to Begala) determination in pursuit of truth. To characterize the aforementioned positive traits as someone who has a “sick, sort of stalker-like obsession with President Clinton” is offensive, demeaning and sexist.

More interestingly, Comstock’s opponent for Virginia’s open 10th congressional seat to replace Congressman Wolf has decided it is good strategy to attack a woman for being assertive, hard working, and tenacious. John Foust tweeted,

foustertweet

And the chairman of the Loudoun County Democrats SPECIFICALLY promotes the sexist quote from Begala,

macbest

Democrats have a history of attacking female leaders who are outspoken, assertive conservatives.  Foust is proving he is no different and a candidate of little character by promoting Begala’s sexist comment, especially when they are based on bitter grudges from the 90s.

Foust should tread lightly with the petty insults against his opponent, because the results could dramatically backfire. Comstock only gets more determined when facing legitimate opposition and she has no tolerance for crass and asinine behavior. Comstock is not a woman to be trifled with – just ask Governor Terry McAuliffe! He still has nightmares about appearing before Congress to explain his Lincoln bedroom memo, thanks to Comstock’s “obsession” for truth.
