Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio apologizes to the Loudoun Board of Supervisors

written by Jeanine Martin August 30, 2013

In a conciliatory gesture Supervisor Delgaudio has reached out to the Loudoun Board of Supervisors with an apology.  In a statement today he also said he would not pursue his lawsuit against the board and he has accepted the board’s censure.

Supervisor Delgaudio issued the following statement:

Delgaudio Annnounces Decision to Accept Censure, Drop Law Suit Against Board of Supervisors, Asks for Staff To Help With Sterling Needs

Statement by Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling District)

In a statement in front of the Loudoun County Government Building made today, Friday, August 30, at 11 a.m. at a news conference, Supervisor Delgaudio said:

“I have decided not to appeal the dismissal of the lawsuit now pending in the Circuit Court.

I made this decision after the Loudoun County Republican Committee adopted a resolution supporting me last Monday night and after consultation with Senator Dick Black.

The public wants Supervisors to focus their efforts on fixing roads and improving schools, not arguing among themselves.

As a Republican, my immediate objective is the election of all Republican candidates in November. I am especially committed to supporting the re-election or election of all Republican candidates for the House of Delegates in Loudoun County.

In recent weeks it became clear the lawsuit was a distraction to doing the public’s business and mobilizing the Republican Party.

I accept the Board’s censure and the loss of my committee assignments.

I apologize to the public and the Board for the embarrassment this incident has caused. There is a lot of fence mending I must do with my collegues on the Board. I should have been more careful. I will be more careful.

In the future, I intend to ask the board to revisit the decision not to provide me with
funds for a staff. I will propose the Board reinstate the funding for my staff under very
stringent conditions.

Sterling is the only district where minorities are a majority in Loudoun
County. As a Majority Minority Supervisor District having a district staff is vital to helping
citizens with serious problems.”

With the dismissal of the lawsuit, future discussions about the Special Grand Jury’s report might occur in the county boardroom but not the courtroom.”
