According to Brandon Jarvis at his substack, Virginia Political Newsletter, Todd left his position as the nominee for US Attorney for the western district of Virginia when he was not allowed to hire his own employees for his office.
From Jarvis’s newsletter:
“When Gilbert took over the position, the White House wanted him to replace an employee who worked in the office under the Biden administration and hire Robert Tracci, who was the other person in contention with Gilbert for the appointment.
Sources say that Gilbert pushed back, as it is his prerogative to hire the attorneys that work for him.
Gilbert eventually gave in and created a position for Tracci to serve as his number two”
According to Jarvis, Gilbert was eventually told to resign or his nomination, not yet confirmed by the Senate, would be pulled so he resigned.
Robert Tracci is now the acting United States attorney for the Western District.
Although Brandon Jarvis says he has multiple sources for this story, he has not spoken with Gilbert or Tracci. I suspect there is more to come on the story. I will let you know more when I know more.
